These two communities often get lumped into the same name of Deer Run, but they are in fact two separate areas. With separate community associations and features all their own.
Deer Run is bordered by Fishcreek to the south and east, Parkland to the west, and Deer Ridge to the north. Deer Run has one public elementary school, Deer Run Elementary, and Wilma Hansen Junior High School in the neighbouring community of Queensland.
There are many outdoor activities that include Fish Creek Park to the south with miles of pathways. Lots of excellent fishing on the Bow River with a boat launch just to the south in Fish Creek. Outdoor fire pit and picnic areas at Hull’s Wood. The Bow Valley Ranche restaurant is one of the best culinary experiences that Calgary has to offer in the historic home of William Roper Hull since 1896. Annie’s Cafe is another spot nestled next to Bow Valley Ranche that serves sandwiches and ice cream for those hot summer days of exploration.
Deer Ridge is up on the ridge and part of the lower area of the community next to the Deer Valley Shopping center. From the ridge you can take in the expansive river valley views on one side to mountains on the other. There is the famous yellow slide park, as well as skating rinks, and baseball diamonds. Don Bosco Catholic Elementary and Junior Highschool services the area. With the Deer Valley Shopping center so close you can walk to the stores for almost all of your shopping needs. There is also a dog park that runs from the adjacent yellow slide park and continues all the way around and into Queensland and to Fish Creek.
